Fortunately, the crash is usually easy enough to fix, except for the time when it is practically impossible to reproduce. Before updating to the latest version, I had been encountering crashes with particular files from time to time. The reason was quite clear: the files contained large JPEGs that took up close to the maximum memory allowed by the operating system. I opted to opt out of the max memory caps, however, until Adobe was more diligent about clearing up other problems. In fact, I had an especially bad crash when using 64 GB of memory on the iPad. The crash was so bad that I had to reboot. Not the safest way to operate, but it did not even seem possible to reproduce this error with any regularity. Unfortunately, no one else could reproduce this crash, either. I tested a number of images, as well as several other problems with the Crash Reporter app. Adobe is completely ignoring the crash reports, so they are not very useful in this regard. I hope that a serious regression does not occur so that the app crashes more often, but in any case, the problem will not be fixed because it seems that the devs just want to fix the odd problem in question or in another. In other words, they have changed their priorities, and it is no longer about the number of issues their software can handle. I am sorry to say that Lightroom is on the table for good maintenance – the user interface and updating procedures are still a work in progress, and the same enthusiasm is not seen in the rest of the apps. The previous version called a “BETA”, but I do not know what it was about other than a change in the wording. Adobe works on what it considers to be the best product version and leaves the rest to developers.
